Avactis and Dreamhost

Folks, if any of you can help me out here, I would really appreciate it. The Dreamhost Support sent me here for help.

I am trying to install Avactis on my domain hosted with Dreamhost.

After I uploaded the Avactis unzipped files to my directory via SFTP and running the install file I get this error message from Avactis:

"To continue the installation, please correct the following Error(s):
Your server's limitation of RAM allocated for running scripts is 15MB.
The amount of memory available to PHP processes should be at least 20MB. To continue the installation, please modify the value of the directive 'memory_limit' to 20M in your file 'php.ini'. For additional assistance, please contact your system administrator or hosting provider."

The Dreamhost support people say:

"Unfortunately I can not make changes to the global php.ini
configuration as you request.

Your best option would be to install a local PHP version for your
website(s) to run off of, with that you can make as specific of changes
to your local php.ini configuration as you would like.

Instructions on how to install a custom local version of PHP can be found

It may be a bit of extra legwork just for this software, but I hope it
works out better than the other choices. If you have any questions,
please feel free to contact me.

Fine. So off I go to those instructions and try to follow them.

and at the end of the process at step 8) Terminal (I am on Mac OS X) displayed (I edited out my actual username and domain info below):

Build complete.
(It is safe to ignore warnings about tempnam and tmpnam).

Installing PHP SAPI module: cgi
Installing PHP CGI into: /home/myusername/php5/bin/
Installing build environment: /home/myusername/php5/lib/php/build/
Installing header files: /home/myusername/php5/include/php/
Installing helper programs: /home/myusername/php5/bin/
program: phpize
program: php-config
Installing man pages: /home/myusername/php5/man/man1/
page: phpize.1
page: php-config.1
Installing PDO headers: /home/myusername/php5/include/php/ext/pdo/
cp: cannot stat `/home/myusername/php5/bin/php-cgi': No such file or directory
[ibc]$ cp ~/php5/bin/php-cgi ~/
cp: cannot stat `/home/myusername/php5/bin/php-cgi': No such file or directory

So the script Wiki page says:
"Internal Server Error
If some of your php files return an internal server error (Server error 500) the install script probably copied the php binary when you needed the php-cgi binary. execute
cp ~/php5/bin/php-cgi ~/DOMAINNAME/cgi-bin/php.cgi
and you will probably be fine."

But that doesn't do anything for me it seems.

I have this page but still have no idea how to solve the problem:
