Problems with Mailling Lists?
I've been a DH user since Dec 1999. Maybe I don't sing their praises enough but that said, I wouldn't have stayed if I wasn't happy with the services - for the most part. Smile From what I understand from my last ISP, mail lists are pretty low on the priority list to repair. I have no idea if that's how DH feels but mail lists are a big part of what I use.

I've been a greyhound rescue and adoption volunteer for as long as I've been with DH. We depend on these lists to communicate about dogs - ill, loose, incoming dogs from the tracks, fostering dogs, transporting dogs, etc and so on. If we don't have the mail lists, we can call one another but that can be very time consuming since there's about 400 volunteers in our system. For emergencies, we use the lists and we make telephone calls.

I also have a couple of entertainment lists in which this outage is nothing more than an inconvenience.

Apparently, a new virus or a new variation of an old virus started circulating on Monday. Maybe this is putting a load on the mail servers. Anyway, it would be nice to know what's going on.

I feel sorry for the customer who just moved his mail lists over on 2/16. He's not off to a very good start with DH.

to ryptide.

Well, I can respect that.

But bear in mind that february was not the month to depend on any mail server anywhere on the planet.

Check out http://www.incidents.org and look at the usual ports for email. In comparsion to a number of other servers that I am currently still dealing with for clients, dreamhost did remarkably well. Also, dreamhost got smurfed with 2x10^5 spam mails 10 days ago (which I have seen melt servers) and the discussion list delay was 10 hours without the loss of a single mail.

Not to start a flame thread. My lists are out too. But patience is an admirible trait.

That's all, Ill post when my mail comes online. To let people know that the east coast is getting mail again.

Problems with Mailling Lists?
I'm just abnormally impatient, because I *just* moved my stuff over from another host that couldn't keep my email or discussion lists up. I dealt with a few months of this from my other host, and was hoping to have rid myself of it by moving, but that wasn't the case.

I recognize that it's just the timing that has me more perturbed than usual and that DreamHost doesn't usually have this problem, but I'm sure everyone understands why I am a little more upset about the inconvenience right now.

I'm looking forward to being able to "sing the praises" of DreamHost, because other than that, they've been very good. There were some issues with getting my domain transferred, but most of that was my fault and the fault of my previous registrar, since I switched registrars as well.

I'm seeing a lot of positive feedback on this forum and around the web, and I'm sure it is honest feedback. I'm just not having that same experience right now. As a new customer, the duration of my DreamHost experience has been problematic, which is not the case for some of your who have been customers for longer than I have.

Yes, it's been down for two days with an occaisonal sign of life. Their support has been ABYSMAL. I have three tickets open of which they have responded to ZERO of them.

I'm sure everyone realizes dreamhost is a small company but to have NOBODY dealing with the problems is inexcusable. When my year is up, I'm gone.

I've had NOTHING but trouble with the mailing lists and other support questions. They don't care. It's obvious.

This is terrible timing for me too, I really need the discussion lists to work this week, but I wouldn't condemn Dreamhost as a company for this one problem. I've been with them for years and they've always given superlative service. Whatever is going on right now is an aberration. It really sucks, but sometimes bugs happen. With Dreamhost they seem to happen pretty rarely, and they usually get dealt with quickly and well.

Mail is up on the east coast.

a *little* slow (my ping took five minutes)
but then again they are clearing out the queue.

I wouldn't say that just yet.

I'm on the east coast, and while I'm getting some messages from last night and earlier this morning, my test messages still aren't getting through yet.

Even when the queue *is* cleared, I'm not considering the matter closed until I hear something definite, and see improved performance. Yesterday it came up to 100% for a few hours before crashing again.

Looks like it's up again, for now.

Hopefully, whatever problem there was has been corrected now.
