Live Streaming?
Hello to all..

I want to open an account on Dreamhost... but I would like to know if the Quicktime/Darwing streaming service supplied it's only for OnDemand files or also allows LiveStreaming.

we want to have an iMac broadcasting from the Pyrenees a wildlife camera pointing at some vulture's nest.

based on our previous experience the daily average of users connected in concurrence it's 2/3.

The stream will be 100/110K.. broadcasted form an ADSL line.

All right, I use the feature for two of my radio shows at http://theparacast.com and http://techbroadcasting.com.

But it's not for live streaming. That would be a huge bandwidth issue for a shared server. Not for you, but in general, which is a valid reason not to provide it. Though I wish they would, even as an extra-cost option.

For our live streams, we use http://streamguys.com, which offers great pricing and excellent performance for live streams. You'd probably want to get their cheapest package, which would probably be $50 per month. If that sounds like a bit much, bear in mind that other streaming services charge more than twice as much for the same package.

FYI: We were able to save money by eliminating the on-demand portion of our package at streamguys; enough to pay for two Level 3 hosting packages on DreamHost. So we're happy.

And I don't even get a commission Smile

In any case, you can do as I have done, which is to host whatever site is handling the streaming content at DreamHost.

And I won't get a commission for that recommendation either.
