Banning a User from visiting my site
hi,

I helped this guy put up his site and now the sob is stealing EVERYTHING off my site including graphics and scripts by viewing the page source code! Luckily he cant get at the php or else im sure he would steal that too.

Ive contacted him and told him to stop he couldnt care less.

His host cant care less either - turns out its his dad!

So I wanted to ask how can I make it so that this user can no longer access my entire site?

I have his IP since he visits my forum too - but a simple ban from the forum wont do the trick since he can always come as a guest.

I pretty much know from my conversations that he dosent know squat about proxies so im not concerned that he will come under another ip.

can someone help me put an end to this pest
thanks
aku

hi

this guy is more pesky that I thought
He is using his dads hosting network to come to my page with different IPs and teling me I cant do anything and I should just unban him and stop trying

His host is identified as: 131-229.126-70.tampabay.res.rr.com

How will I deny connections from this entire host can someone help?

I have put this in my .httaccess file, will it suffice?

deny from .tampabay.res.rr.com
deny from 131-229.126-70.tampabay.res.rr.com
deny from tampabay.res.rr.com

thanks

You can find netblocks at arin.net, eg

deny from 70.112.0.0/12

Have a look at http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess5.shtml to see how to block IP's.

For a single IP you use 123.123.123.123

Then moving up through the block use 123.123.123.
(note the point at the end)
then 123.123. etc.

You could try adding your graphics to the hotlink control in the panel.

You could even rename your graphics and then hotlink prevent them and create some 'dodgy' graphics using the names he has already purloined.

Of course I d not recommend the latter option. Big Grin

Thanks Ill read and give it a try

The problem is not hot linking - but rather stealing my graphics, modifying them and putting them on his page. And hes even taking scripts i've used by reading my page source and using them! As it stands his page looks like a 80% replica of mine and he just wont stop.

Thanks for the suggestions and help

thanks for all the help everyone Big Grin

I think this part did the trick:

deny from .tampabay.res.rr.com
deny from 131-229.126-70.tampabay.res.rr.com
deny from tampabay.res.rr.com

because since I did that he hasn't been on my page for 24 hours but I see him online on a few support forums for the forum and portal software - so i know hes online, just not on my page Big Grin Yippee

Thanks again!

Hey, I'm from Tampa Bay, and suddenly I can't get to one of my favorite sites. I keep getting 403-forbidden errors. Any idea what's wrong? :->
