Anyone know the history behind this site? Was thinking of joining DH but want to know if I will have good service with DH. Thanks

Die, Troll, Die..cross-posting spammer scum!
Okay... we get the point. The double posting only confirmed the suspicion that you are a forum-spamming troll of the lowest sort. Posting the url 3 times in two messages on two different forums will get you nothing but invective from most of those that populate these forums, if they respond to you at all.

Yea..every so often someone affiliated with that site "pops in" to these forums, splatters garbage about for a bit, and then leaves. It's "old news", and has been discussed here repeatedly.

If, on the outside chance, you are actually interested in what you can expect from Dreamhost, read the forums. There have been several threads very recently (within the last 2 weeks) where people considering signing up for Dreamhost have asked for others' evaluations, reviews, opinions and experiences. and where varying responses have been shared.

If, however, you are just url spamming, as it very much appears you are...then check out the title of this post.

No, I was actually trying to learn more about the site I was inquiring about...A competitor had led me to it yesterday, and I was being cautious about signing up. The double post was by accident as I was editing and accidently clicked the continue button twice. Also, wanted to add this concern to this forum because it seemd there were more people on here than the "new to DH" forum. Yes, my sig does have my URL but it is not a spam. I'm really inquiring about the site I had asked about...I'm in need of new hosting company. Thanks

A competitor of yours or of DreamHost? If the latter, did you consider that the competitor may very well have more to do with that site than they were saying?

No, I meant a competitor of DH. I was asking the competitor with whom I'm ready to leave with why they were not offering more services to their hosting packages like DH is. That's when they replied back with the URL.

Fair enough. If your intentions here are to actually engage in a conversation about what Dreamhost users perceive to be the good, and bad, experiences they have had hosting here, you are more than welcome. A good way to show that those *are* your intentions would be to delete one of your posts, and remove the "url spam" from your remaining post.

Understand, no one here objects to you using your url in your signature; the repeated use of the "other" url in a single post, and then again in a thread title is the "spam" to which I was referring.

From your profile, and your *last* post, I believe that you have sufficient facility with the written word to ask your question in a way that does not promote or advertise the other site. *That* is the appropriate manner to initiate a discussion.

Should you choose to do that, I'll be happy to edit my post's title, assist you by pointing you to several of the other threads I mentioned, and candidly answer any question you have about my experiences as a Dreamhost customer. The ability to edit posts (and delete them) is only available for a short time after the post has been submitted, so if you *do* want to "start over", you need to do it "soon" Wink

I am not spamming...and I take offense at your harsh judgement to someone who is not an expert at forums. I do not know what you want me to edit. I put the URL on the title so it could stand out and I could get a reply, as this URL is very concerning for someone wanting to join DH. Mentioning it again in my thread should not warrant an immediate bashing at someone who was trying to be sincere. I could not locate the dupliate post. I assume you mean the one in "New to dreamhost" forum?

Welcome to the Happy DreamHost Community!
One of the best things about this place, is they generally allow very open communication.

One of the worst things about this place, as you just experienced, is many people here are self-righteous, quick to judge, and quick to act unilaterally and/or demand things from others.

Interestingly, the same people can also be very helpful.

Getting a little stale, but makes the point about how DreamHost sometimes shoots first and aims later, and doesn't communicate well:

http://www.google.com/search?q=dreamhost+~bad: 1,690,000

http://www.google.com/search?q=dreamhost+~rocks: 1,230,000

http://www.google.com/search?q=dreamhost+~sucks: 331,000

The ratios have deteriorated in the last six months:

That said, I'm generally a satisfied customer. Remember to use a $97 or better promo code, if you signup.

You are welcome to a refund.-Michael;Comparing 'DH of today' with 'DH of old' does not serve much purpose.-Dallas

Whether or not *you* recognize that placing the same url in three different places, in two different posts, and in two different forums within the space of 30 minutes as "spamming" is irrelevant; the fact remains that it *is* spam. That you did not realize such activity "spams" the forums, and that you did not intend for it to be perceived in that way mitigates it a bit. There is no way for me to know that you are not "expert" at forums, and the pattern of your activity was "classic" forum spam. I'm sorry that you perceived my response as harsh, and I'm sorry I offended you.
Quote:do not know what you want me to edit. I put the URL on the title so it could stand out and I could get a reply, as this URL is very concerning for someone wanting to join DH.
By doing that you publicized, advertised, and promoted that site (because search engines *will* pick it up) . Had you thought at all about the appropriateness of doing that on forums belonging to Dreamhost, you could have simply penned a title soliciting comments about negative reviews you have read, and even referred to the other site in the text of you post with a slight degree of obfuscation ( as in Micr*s*ft, or GW B*sh, or Dreamh*st-s*cks.com) as is commonly done all over the web to "mask" everything from email addresses to expletives from bots, search engines, and children's eyes.
Quote:Mentioning it again in my thread should not warrant an immediate bashing at someone who was trying to be sincere.
In your first post, you mentioned it *twice* within the first four lines of your post - and it was the only content on two of those four lines. That is either "completely clueless" or "classic forum spam" and, as such I did not perceive it as being at all "sincere". I'm sorry you consider my response to be a "bashing"; that was *not* my intention and, again, I apologize.I could not locate the dupliate post. I assume you mean the one in "New to dreamhost" forum?[/quote]My suggestion was intended to point out that, if you did not intend to double-post or to "spamvertize" that site, there *was* a way to "undo" it, nothing more. Write what you want; if you do not care about netiquette or how your posts might be perceived, there is no reason for you to "edit" anything. Smile

I will not take down the forum because I feel it is important. However, I will edit what you say. however, I only see the title on this post as having the url. What would you like me to edit on my original post?
