quicktime streaming timout
I'm trying to stream quicktime but not having any success yet.

If you do this:
a) go to '',
b) register, then press Start, Start
c) navigate to Module 1, slide 6

You should see streaming video, but what you see instead is quicktime doing something, but then getting a timeout error (5408) . I'm at my wits end.

Here's what I've done:

1) Used the web pannel to set up a streaming sub domain (

2)Uploaded a hinted movie file to that subdomain with a .mov extension.

3) Created a pointer to that file in (this is where the web site is currently running):

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<?quicktime type="application/x-quicktime-media-link"?>
<embed src="rtsp://" autoplay="true" />

4) Created an object in html that referes to the pointer. This file is in the same directory as the pointer.

<object classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B"
width="320" height="260">
<param name="src" value="chuck.qtl" />
<param name="autoplay" value="true" />
<param name="pluginspage" value="" />
<param name="controller" value="true" />

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am deffinately no pro with quicktime nor xml. But your code does not look right to me. To my knowledge and I could be wrong. Is your object src should match your embed src. You are lacking the poster image. and I don't beleive Dreamhost server supports the qtl extention. This is only the second time I have seen that extention and the other person had problems as well. Try leaving your extentions as .mov including the poster image, even if it is jpg give it a .mov extention.
I really hope this helps,

the only thing I can think of is that your pointer is not called chuck.qtl.
I've gotten that error before, but usually it has to do with the code and pointing to the right file.

I made some tests because I wanted to make use of the Darwin Streaming Server. After these I prefer to use a flash video via http streaming.

I followed the instructions as you and, on my machine the quicktime didn't show the video, in other machines it showed but the quality was poor, the video was freezing all the time.

In change, the same video in flash never stoped. So, in my case, flash video has been better.
