Do you like the spread of misinformation when trying to get businesses back up and running?

Seriously though, just because I don't like people spreading misinformation in such a time, how does that make me have any sort of psychological issues?

Oh joy, we have a file transfer site setup to transfer files from our Berlin office. I just downloaded one file and got a whopping 20KB/s average for the full 15 minutes (roughly.)

The attachments in my emails have been corrupted as well.

However, according to one poster here "this was just a minor scare. It was easily recovered from, didn't disrupt services overly much."

So my slow speeds and file corruption can't be from the outage yesterday. Oh, wait, DH's blog seems to imply otherwise. Hmmm.

*sigh*

I am sorry you have so much anger in you. I honestly think that you'd be better served by someone else as your webhost.

...Arguing over the definition of "easily" -- I can't believe you managed to drag me in on that...

Ah well, you have fun with this thread, I'll go do something more productive.

Anger? No. Just a lower tolerance for people who spread misinformation when information is scarce. It needed to be pointed out so other didn't fall prey.

Replying After Playing Texas Hold'Em and Winning Tonight!!!

Okay, yeah for me on win of chipset...

I have been with dreamhost since early summer '03

Yes, I did my homework. A friend and I decided to look for a host that met our needs. Dreamhost was it. We each bought our packages, and away we went.

So, heyyyyyy, I did my homework.

Dreamhost has been great. We suffered a ddos attack and dreamhost learned from it (and so did microsoft, they had a ddos attack about the same time.)

we have had some sketchy email issues. nothing to complain about (trust me, my client are persnickity. maybe I got the better 26 servers than some of you did.)

We both have over 100 sites at dreamhost. I have the most Smile no slap to you michael. I contacted my customers yesterday (I believe I was being proactive, let them know before they can complain) and all went well.

Today when the routers were failing we had a customer online with us going through the traceroute. We explained to them about the outage and our concerns about their customers not being able to view their sites at an appropriate speed. We never asked them what they wanted to do, as they knew we could move them to another host provider, but we believe they are quite satisfied with dreamhost at this moment. They understood.

No one company is perfect...and no one company can cover their asses in ALL situations. there are too many variables...just remember the first script you wrote that didn't work in every situation. Nothing is perfect.

I think it is great that we can complain in this forum. And, I think complaining does have a VOTE in what gets fixed first. : )

I like the blog, I like knowing what is going on. I do think DH is right in fixing before blogging though.

So, me and my sites, and Michael and his sites are staying with dreamhost. If you are so disatisfied, then move on. If you just want to make noise, then stay (or stay in the forum and move your sites.) I still believe DH has done an awesome job of growing. and yes, I would rather have a perfect host....no, I wouldn't, then they wouldn't be so open about their mistakes.

okay, now to go play with my chips....going ALL IN

shad, I agree with you. For the price, it can't be beat. For the clients where I need better uptime/performance... I go with a different host.

A client was referred to DH back in 1997. When I had to find a host for some of my own things, I gave them a shot in 1998 and have been with them ever since. I've also used several data centers in North America, Australia and Europe. I've worked for companies with their own data centers, am certified in several areas of server administration.

For the price (adding into it that I've got enough referrals to more than cover my hosting costs) they offer an awesome service. The thought of switching hasn't even crossed my mind.

I have been with dreamhost for close to a year now and yes this was there biggest site crash ive seen yet. but everything is up and running fine now. I would never move to another hosting company. I think they are doin a great job. This was unavoidable.
