Policy on affiliate links...?
Y'know, all of you who think that you're entitled to a monetary compensation because you've posted replies on Dreamhost message board... maybe you should just send a bill to Dreamhost and be done with it. Charge a $150 hourly fee (rounded to the next full hour, of course) if you feel like it.

Preying on new users' referrals about the forums is just that, predatory. Preying on the uninformed. No matter how hard you try to dress it up as something else that's what it is and always will be. Please be more up-front about it: just send DH a bill for your time if you think you're so much worthier than everyone else offering their free time.

Oh, by the way, about the person refusing to tell where to download WikkaWiki because they're pouting about the $97 he wouldn't get from DH: I can see where you're coming from. Obviously googling "wikkawiki" is sooooooo hard to do that no-one on earth would find it without your indispensable input. Please do send a bill to Dreamhost; obviously these forums would collapse without your supreme presence and therefore you're entitled to a monthly salary from DH.

And here I thought that Dreamhost had a "community," not a network of paid employees masquerading as community. No wonder there are a lot of people here who exclaim that they've never had a problem with DH and that they're teh bestest thing eva. It's money that makes this little corner of the world go 'round after all. Go refer yourself.

Quote:And I want them never to forget dreamhost WILL dump support messages from the Queues without resolving them.
Personally, I've never experienced that; however, I'm willing to concede that it probably happens from time to time. If I was working in the support department, I'd probably get a bit frustrated that the same questions were being asked time and again, when the answers are generally available on this forum.

Quote:Do you have issue with any of my Wiki Edits?
None whatsoever. Like I said, I have no issue with your input in either the forum or the wiki. I was just wondering why you bothered, since you obviously feel rather negative about your DreamHost experience. Such altruism is rare Smile

In fact, you have a point Iri. I do not feel attacked by your reply-post, because to some degree you're right. Yes, it was me who said "that's gotta count for something, right?", and yes, money makes the world go round. Perhaps your real point is that the DH rewards system exists at all, and we're simply reacting by buying into it, and doing what we can to use it wherever. Sure, it's bad if you choose that perspective, but since we have the rewards system, we're going to use it.

Let's ban the rewards altogether if this is the real cause of our disagreements. I just think that banning referrals and certain other things in the forum won't do much of a difference.

Nah. More likely they solve some major internal problem, and then go through the support queue deleting tickets that look like they were linked with that problem. Unfortunately you will inevitably delete unrelated tickets in the process because you don't take the time to read and comprehend each ticket individually.

Oh, BTW...

I clicked!

All the cool people click.

You want to be cool too, right?

So click!

Actually, TorbenGB, I can't remember what my point was. It just felt good to go on tangent. Unfortunately caffeine has this nasty habit of dissipating the early-morning memories, so I can't remember what the tangent was about. Go figure.

I'm glad you're not offended though.

Edit: I do not think I have anything against a well put together and operated referral system.

> Oh, by the way, about the person refusing to tell where to download WikkaWiki because they're pouting about the $97 he wouldn't get from DH:

Read it again:
If your going to ban referral links, you will have to ban all non site5 links as well. and wont THAT be fun. Want to know the address to download WikkaWiki (which I prefer over MediaWiki) Sorry. can't tell you.

It was in the context of how referral links can be hidden/masked, such that if you ban referral links you might have to ban all links.

I don't do referral links for dreamhost, or wernt you paying attention?

And, as this post shows, referral links could be a WHOLE lot worse.

No, as a matter of fact I wasn't paying attention.

Any questions?

(BTW, I was thinking of doing that whole link-the-whole-post thing myself -- that's just way cool)

WikkaWiki can be downloaded here. I found the link by "googling wikkawiki". And, I'll have to agree with Iri on this one, [sarcasm]it was very difficult.[/sarcasm]

Ban 'em. I have nothing against capitalism, but it seems a little too predatory to infer to newbies (some brand-newbies) that the only way to get the answer to their question is to click on this link. There's no consent and often no knowledge anything went on.

I've clicked on one before accidentally and actually submitted a support request to make sure that the person did not receive referral credit from me.
