Importing a Wordpress export file into an Apps Wordpress instance
Hi,

I'd like to move my existing blog from a Wordpress installation hosted elsewhere to a DreamHost Wordpress Apps instance. I created the App, but when I go to Wordpress Control Panel -> Tools -> Import, I am told that there are no importers available. Is there any way to import a Wordpress export file, or, more generally, to move an existing blog over to the App?

Sounds like you are going to need a regular account with regular storage and not a free account.

Bummer. I'm afraid Apps won't be much use to me, then. Thanks, anyway.

What do you expect for free?

one year of paid service is pretty dang cheap too, and comes with a 97 day money back guarentee

I'm sorry - I didn't mean to whine. I just thought that allowing imports would have made sense, and I was disappointed that it was not possible. Of course I am grateful for their gracious supplying of whatever they choose to gratis.
But what do you mean that a year of paid service is "dang cheap"? I'm seeing 8.95 a month - not exorbitant, but well above the $3 / $5 per month the budget hosters (even the reputable, well-known outfits) offer.

I thought that $9/month is not so bad for unlimited no of domains, email addresses etc. Changed to Dreamhost ten years ago and it has been very reliable since. Even got reply to a service call within 8 hours which is not bad considering the number of accounts they host - apparently millions.

I don't necessarily disagree with your assessment of the value, but for my current needs, it's probably overkill. Thanks for the information, though.
