ZenCart Gone - Unacceptable
Hey there,

I discovered zen-cart was gone from the one-click goodies / installation this morning. Figuring this was a technical mishap; I got in touch with support.

What I got back from support was as follows:

Quote:Unfortunately, ZenCart has been removed from the One Click Install area
as we have now partnered with CafeCommerce.

Frankly, I don't mind if you partner with CafeCommerce, but don't take Zen-cart away.

If this is part of your terms and conditions with CafeCommerce, then frankly, you've just sold out your DreamHost customer base.

Let me make it clear here;
This customer (me) is VERY UNHAPPY.

How many others want to send a message to Dreamhost - that this kind of thing is unacceptable.

Further more, there is precedent to allow the best of both worlds. Sure you have ChartBeat, but you also have two Analytic programs in your goodies. Oh, no.... now we'll loose those too.

Dream host - > get it together.
Bring back zen-cart and don't do this garbage in the future.

RE: ZenCart Gone - Unacceptable
I agree with you that it was a pretty crappy decision to zap something from the one-click install that existing customers were use to having, especially since it was such a popular ecommerce application. It would have been nice to just add an additional option for ecommerce solutions to give people a choice between something they have probably heard of vs something not as well known (i have never heard of cafecommerce...). I didn't see anything at all on the one-clicks for shopping carts tho...

That being said, if you like zencart it is not all that hard to install it manually. The instructions are pretty self-explanatory. Its just that people tend to be too lazy to try or too cheap get someone else to do it if they are unable to figure it out. I say go ahead and jump into the water. Once you install one piece of mysql+php based software there shouldn't be much of anything of that type you couldn't get going on your account.

ZenCart has been re-added as an option for one click! Rejoice! =)

So thanks Dream Host, for listening.
(Parent mode -> just don't do it again) ;-)

Cheers

RE: ZenCart Gone - Unacceptable
When I read the blog post about it I was all set to rage and had to sleep on it. I could understand changing apps but them hawking something by some unknown company that would cost so much per month vs no free alternative wasn't good. People who rely on the one-clicks would have been suckered into blowing even more money... they pay for hosting that should be enough. That DH considered doing something like that in the first place (and had been considering it for months before they actually decided to shaft their customers...) really blew me away for a moment there. I'm glad they saw reason and hope they don't make similar decisions like that in the future. Doing such things would be a clear sign to jump ship because they obviously will have been turning to the dark side.
