magento can't find mysql
hi all,
I'm moving my magento site from other hosting to dreamhost, and it won't work.
http://www.create-a-dream.com
it says:
SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

now i have created the db and set the username, pass, and db name in:
app/etc/local.xml

but still no luck.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ron

What you haven't set is the database hostname. Add that in and it should work.

hi, thanks for your reply.
sorry, the host name is set. here is all my local.xml file, with only some details modified for security.
Please tell me if you see anything wrong.
Thanks,
Ron

Are you sure that "host" is the right key? I can't easily find any documentation online that describes the format of the Magento local.xml, but the error you're describing sounds like it's not reading that hostname.

Change this:
<host><![CDATA[sql.create-a-dream.com]]></host>

To
<host><![CDATA[mysql.create-a-dream.com]]></host>

RE: magento can't find mysql
Where is sql.create-a-dream.com? If it's still at that other host, they may have security set up to prevent outside access to the database, much like DreamHost does.
http://wiki.dreamhost.com/MySQL#Connect_...y_Programs

Yet another edit: When I do a lookup for sql.create-a-dream.com, I get a Host Not Found. You're using the SIMPLEHELIX.COM name server, which makes me think you're still hosted at the other host.
