Wrong CNAME for Gmail?

#1

So, I’ve just set up Google apps on my website and everything works fine, apart from my “mail” subdomain.

I’ve checked the settings on the Google Apps panel and clicked on “use custom URL”. I entered the “mail” subdomain and google asked me to add a CNAME record from that subdomain pointing to “ghs.googlehosted.com”.

I noticed however that “mail” was already reserved and not editable, and the worst thing is that it points to “ghs.google.com”. When I go to the subdomain, I’m being redirected to a 404 google page.

Just to check things, I created an “email” CNAME record and pointed it to the correct URL, and it worked instantaneously.

Now what? Did someone experience a similar problem? Any possible fix, or does that have to come from DH team which had the wrong record set up?

Hi,

Remove your Existing MX records in DNS settings,

Then do these following steps.

  1. Add the following MX records

domain.com. MX 10 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
domain.com. MX 20 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
domain.com. MX 20 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
domain.com. MX 30 ASPMX2.L.GOOGLE.COM.
domain.com. MX 30 ASPMX3.L.GOOGLE.COM.
domain.com. MX 30 ASPMX4.L.GOOGLE.COM.
domain.com. MX 30 ASPMX5.L.GOOGLE.COM.

2.Add the following CNAME record

mail.domain.com CNAME ghs.google.com.
