Working: Lighttpd parallel with apache

Possible? Yes… Only on PS, sorry to any shared hosting customers but your terms of service don’t let you do this (and resource usage is less of a concern to you anyway).

I got sick of the bulky apache chewing through my resources when I only needed to quickly load a static page, javascript file, image or provide a large download (that one was the real killer). Dreamhost’s installation of Lighttpd as an option instead of Apache is a step in the right direction, but I have a substancial amount of websites that would be broken under pure Lighttpd, so that’s not an option at all.

I’ve managed to (quite easily actually) install lighttpd running parallel with apache. As far as I can tell so far, it works perfectly and quite transparently.
