I am working on a site which is hosted elsewhere, but WordPress runs very slowly there. We set up a new hosting account here but have not moved the DNS yet. I’m able to log into the control panel. I installed WordPress, and can even FTP into the server and see that it’s installed.
Problem 1: at the time of installation, I was not given the option to create the admin user. The instructions arrived and said to go to:
http://www.xxxxxx.org/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php (where xxxx is my domain).
However, since the DNS does not yet point to Dreamhost, of course this URL won’t work. I tried the IP address and that won’t work. In short, I have no way to log in to finish the installation.
On other hosting companies, there is a way to get to the hosting without the DNS pointing there yet (such as previewdns used at GoDaddy). Is there an equivalent here?
If there is no way to access WordPress without the DNS pointing here, that’s a showstopper. We’re not moving the site until we know that it runs quickly here.
