I want to do the one-click wordpress install and take an existing site and re-create it in wordpress. but before downloading to that URL, i am warned that there must be no files there.
I suggest that you create a subdomain owned by the same user as your main domain.
- This will let you develop your new site without taking down the old site.
- Sure, it’ll break the One-Click upgrade path, but WordPress has its own built-in upgrade mechanism that I’ve been using for quite some time.
- When your new site is ready, you can simply rename those domain directories so you have old.example.com which used to be example.com, and then example.com which used to be sub.example.com
Thanks, Scott. I will try it!
