WordPress Domain Redirect

#1

Another, probably obvious, question:

I am (like everyone else) trying to redirect my wordpress subdomain to my root domain. I have read about 20 threads on how to do this on both the dreamhost wp forums and cannot seem to figure it out.

I’ve been trying to follow the WP codex and Ryo-ohki’s instructions here: https://discussion.dreamhost.com/thread-131591.html

From what I understand, I need to add an htaccess file to my wp subdirectory and modify it to remap to the root. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to add that file.

Can I use the WebFTP to access the subdirectory? When I log in to WebFTP I do not see the subdirectory. All I see is 2 folders “mail” and “logs,” both of which are empty.

Thank you for your patience and time!

Darlene

You add the .htaccess in your root HTML directory.

WP is installed in /home/username/domain.com/wordpress

The .htaccess goes in /home/username/domain.com/

You want people who go to example.com to be redirected to myrealdomain.com?

Easiest way is in your panel.

Go to https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=domain.manage& and click on Add New Domain / Sub-Domain

Then in the section for Redirect fill in the two fields:

Domain to redirect: http://example.com
Redirect to URL: http://myrealdomain.com
