Wordpress blog backup

#1

Hello…I’d like to backup some of my Wordpress blogs and I’m not exactly sure how to go about it. I’ve checked this post about migrating MySQL and this page on general Wordpress backup tips.

I know how to access phpMyAdmin on Dreamhost through the main control panel, but once I’m there, I’m not exactly sure what to do. I assume I’m doing an export to a file, but there are SO MANY options to check or uncheck that I’m paranoid about doing something wrong.

Is there detailed instructions anywhere online for a newbie like me?

Thanks in advance,

Debbie

There’s a very simple way, without worrying about phpMyAdmin, although it does do snapshots.

There’s a WordPress plug-in, WordPress Database Backup, which you can find and download from the WP site, that will do this more or less automatically. Version 2.0 added that feature, along with automatic emailing of the file to you.

It used to be bundled with WP, but isn’t any longer, effective with version 2.1.

Thanks, Gene. I was aware of the plugin but assumed that it was no longer bundled with Wordpress because of incompatibility issues with newer versions. Now that I know it’s still fine, I’ll start using it.
