With's up with the panel?

#1

It’s driving me nuts.

Most every day lately it is as slow as mud to load the first time. And I’m talking 3 or 4 minutes to get the first page up.

The dreamhost.com homepage comes up in a flash. I can also tracert to panel.dreamhost.com fine and I have tried this with two different PC’s, so I don’t think the problem is my end.

This is from Australia.

Has anyone else experienced problems? Is there any other trouble shooting I can do? Is the web server for the control panel under a heavy load?

Zilch.

#2

It may be cookie related. I noticed changing to my other PC the panel login appeared very quickly (no cookie on this machine) but after I entered my password, it went into noddy-land again for ages.

This problem has shown up over serveral days.

Anyone from DH care to comment?

Zilch.

I’m having the same trouble. While I’m in my 90 guarantee period, I’m quite interested in how this is going to be dealt with by DH.

Interesting…I am not having a problem with the panel at all. I wonder if it could be a browser specific problem. All of you that are having problems, what browsers (an maybe operating systems) are you using? I use Mozilla on Mac OS 9, and Camino on OSX.

Both work great, fast with no issues. I just tried IE5 (on OS 9 right now) it was a bit sluggish, but not too bad. Plus I am on DSL.

How do I check the traceroute? or ping…or whatever it is to see the actual speed?

Here for the last few days it has often been that slow on all pages. Are you seeing it slow on /only/ the first?

#6

I can’t actually tell if the whole panel doesn’t respond for several minutes, or if it’s the front page. (I don’t have a link to one of the deeper pages). Once I get the first page loaded I can generally use the panel at a reasonable speed until it happens next time.

I’m using IE 6.0.x on WinXP SP2.

Zilch.

Mozilla Firefox 1.0 on Win XP SP2

It’s lagging for minutes on my end too.
And I’m using Firefox.

Trace complete.

I think the problem is with the server end, given that everyone can ping the subdomain, and multiple people are reporting problems.

Anyone from Dreamhost care to comment?

Thanks,
Interesting…I am not having a problem with the panel at all. I wonder if it could be a browser specific problem.
Seems not since SUpport says:

The panel infrastructure is a series of load balanced servers and I have
looked into the logs but its impossible to determine anything useful from
the time frame you specified. We are aware of the slowness of the panel
and our administratrators are working to try to alleviate this slowness
but it could be quite some time before you notice any drastic improvement
in performance. Especially when working on the panel during peak hours.
In the meantime, thanks for bringing this to our attention and in the
future if you’d like to let us know everytime you notice unacceptable lag
with our panel that might be helpful.
All of you that are having problems, what browsers (an maybe operating systems) are you using?
FWIW Windows XP and Opera 7.54. Incidentally I have found the panel failing on Opera, both soft (tab clicks refetching whole page) to hard (Create Announce form post failing, no error).
