Why doesn't it find phpize?

[lapaz]$ dir phar phar.phar php php-cgi php-config phpize [lapaz]$ cd phpize -bash: cd: phpize: Not a directory [lapaz]$

phpize is a file, not a directory, so you can’t cd to it.

If I try to run it, I get this error, so because of this I thought that I should CD to it:

[lapaz]$ dir

ack multilog pgrphack phpize-5.3 softlimit svscanboot
crontab nrpe php readproctitle supervise svstat
envdir page.pl php-5.3 safetynet svc tai64n
envuidgid pear php-config setlock svok tai64nlocal
fghack perl phpize setuidgid svscan vl

[lapaz]$ phpize
Cannot find config.m4.
Make sure that you run ‘/usr/local/bin/phpize’ in the top level source directory of the module

Like the error message says, you must run phpize from the directory containing the PHP module you’re trying to compile.
