Where is iProtect?

#1

Where on the Panel is the control for iProtect? I can’t see it under Domains > Htaccess / WebDAV .

Thanks.

Thanks, but I can’t find iProtect at the panel location that specifies:

https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=goodies.htaccess

#4

I’m assuming that since it was turned off over a 2 years ago, and since the .htaccess panel has gone through a few changes since then, that they may have just left it behind. Have you contacted support?

The KB doesn’t say its was turned off. It says the default status was changed to Off. The feature itself is still offered by DH.

No, I haven’t bothered Support. I presumed at least one here must have used it.

Thanks.

#6

Support for iProtect was removed a few months ago because the developer stopped updating it.

“Support”? I guess you mean the feature was removed. Thanks.

OOI, how did you find out?

I believe we sent an announcement, and mentioned it in the newsletter. If you see any place where it is specifically mentioned as being supported, please let me know and I will update it.

Thanks.

Very possibly - I’ve not been getting them for long, and have not found an archive.

The most recent mention in a newsletter is in v5.1 January 2003:

You can view an archive, here:

Admittedly, as far as announcement archives go, this one leaves a bit to be desired (ie. no search engine).

Oop! Good catch. I’ve sent an email to Marketing to get that changed. Thanks for the heads-up.

That’s a webID-specific subset IIUC. I was wondering if there was a full archive.

But with Bob’s pointer I found this annoucement was in my set, soon after sign-up, and I’d missed it.
Thanks, both.

Unfortunately, there isn’t one.

We attempt to only send any given Web ID announcements that pertain to them. There’s no way currently to review a ‘full’ archive - we haven’t yet received any requests for this sort of thing, and I’m not sure how much demand there would be for one. I suppose it could be useful for those with multiple Web IDs who don’t want to log out and back in under a different Web ID to find a specific announcement.

Wouldn’t a better solution be to make Home > Announcements respects Active Accounts? Currently it shows for the Owned account, ignoring the Active Account. The Support tab too. Such a change would eliminate confusion caused by the fact that it is not possible to tell which tabs show the Active Account and which the Owned.

Jeff,

Please update your email templates for DreamHost Bandwidth Usage ALERT. You still have iprotect endorsed there!

  1. If you run a password protected site and believe it is possible that
someone is sharing your passwords (resulting in greater than normal
traffic), you may want to consider enabling IProtect functionality
for your password protected directory. This disables users that
appear to be shared. You may enable this feature here:

https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=goodies.htaccess

Thanks for the heads-up! Sorry for any confusion that may have caused. I’ve removed this mention in our CVS repository, though it could take a few days to get pushed out.
