How do I save files on my computer for them to show up right on dreamhost? All dreamhost shows is my programming
index.html is the default file that a directory will show, there’s a list of alternates as well if you don’t have an index.html in the directory. Maybe you should have a look around the KBASE, in particular, here: https://panel.dreamhost.com/kbase/index.cgi?area=165&keyword=index.html or just do a search in the KBASE for index.html for a lot of good reading
Oh, next time more details will maybe get you a better answer, like, the URL is www.whatever.com, the “programming” language I’m using is suchandsuch etc…
You don’t say what kind of files you’re referring to, but if you’re talking about CGI scripts rather than HTML files, you will need to make sure that the permissions are set correctly for them to be executable, and that CGI is enabled on your account. In most cases the permissions should be set to 755, and you can check whether CGI is enabled by looking in the domain settings in the control panel.
If it is HTML files you’re talking about, and you’re somehow seeing the code rather than the page, then it’s probably a coding error on your part that’s keeping your browser from understanding that it’s HTML. Make sure your whole page is enclosed in … tags and that your HEAD and BODY tags are correctly placed.
