Website occasionally redirects to porn site

#1

I have been having a problem with a couple of my dreamhost websites where the home page will occasionally redirect to another site (either a blank page or a porn site of some kind) maybe every 10 or twenty times.

I usea bookmark so I am sure it isn’t a typo. ONe of the sites is joomla 1.5, and if I am not mistaken it happened to my 2.5 website too… How could this happen? What should I do?

someone probably hacked your site using an exploit in the software. pretty much the only thing you can do is make sure to use the most up-to-date version of the software. always install any security patches. also keep track of when your files were last modified. if you see they have been modified and it was not at a time you did so you should always be a bit suspicious. you have to check your files for any malicious looking code that may have been injected into them. also keep a backup of your site. this way if you cannot seem to fix what was done, you can just delete and restore. that won’t stop it from happening again though. you would need to try your best to find where the vulnerability is.

Your site has been hacked, most likely. Those pages are being served from your exploited files. See this thread for info to clean it up. While much of the conversation is about Wordpress, Joomla! and other php based sites are also affected. Make sure any plug-ins you are using are up to date, secure.

I have looked at my .logs file and it only contains a number of .rr.nu domains listed: A quick google search revealed that thesea re probably malicious. It probably isn’t enough to just delete these. is it?

No. Check the thread artgeek listed to you. There is a script there that can remove any of the malicious lines. Those rr.nu domains are malicious, don’t go to those.

Another thing you can do is completely format the computer and reset it. Sometimes when you enter adult pages, your computer may become infected. There is a lot of porn video chat that are legit and you do not have problems but at other times you must be careful where you access. I wish you luck and do not have any problems …

I also have a problem with my computer. I downloaded an application and now I can see porn sites  opened in my browser. I do not have much idea of how to solve this problem. I have followed the instructions of this chat but I do not understand very well how to solve it.

@cartier39 most likely your computer is infected by malware. How to fix the issue depends on what kind of malware that is and your system’s configuration, versions, etc. How to clean personal computers from malware is probably off-topic for this forum. You can start by searching online “how to remove virus” and follow instructions there.
Good luck!
