Website down

#1

Hello everyone. I noticed that my website and email were both down, so I logged into the control panel on my account, and I noticed that I owed a balance of $119. I just paid it off in full. However, it’s been about fifteen minutes, and my website still isn’t up yet. Does anyone here know how long it takes for a website to come back up again? Thanks.

DNS changes (and this will have DNS changes) usually take 4-8 hours but can take longer.

Use the tool at https://www.whatsmydns.net/ to watch the progress.

It’s been close to 20 hours and it’s still down. :frowning:

have you tried chatting with support? there is a link in the dreamhost panel.

if you can post the domain name i’ll poke around and see if I can guess if it’s stuck.

No, but I probably will in a few more hours if things don’t change by then.

My domain name is www.electricstud.io.

I can’t seem to get much info from http://www.nic.io/cgi-bin/whois
but it appears via https://www.whatsmydns.net/
that nothing is propagating and that DNS for the domain doesn’t exist.

you need to chat with support, something’s not happening correctly…

Where did you register this domain? I’m not finding any WHOIS info or DNS records for your site either.

I have a new theory… if your hosting account was up for an annual renewal the registration probably was also. Meaning both expired on or around the same time.

found a valid .io domain finally and got the whois info on it that I expected… since your domain only returns that the domain is not available for use, I would say the reason is your registration has also indeed expired and also needs to be renewed.

Does this mean I need to log onto the website where I purchased the domain name from, renew the domain name, and then re-upload all my files? What steps do I need to take now?

You won’t need to re-upload. Just log in where you registered the domain and find out if it’s expired and needs to be renewed. If so pay, then make sure the nameservers are still set to ns1.dreamhost.com, ns2.dreamhost.com, ns3.dreamhost.com

Yes, it seems your domain expired a month ago. One of our tech support reps contacted nic.io for you about this, and this is the info we received:

"The name expired 2014-03-21 and is in suspended mode pending renewal.

It will auto-release 90days from 2014-03-21"

Go ahead and follow LakeRat’s advice and renew that domain!
