Watch mayo die :)

#1

i just had a nice little view of mayo going up to:
load average: 319.27, 179.55, 78.14
before (understandably) dying. (my username is fhofmann)

I seriously can’t imagine legitimate use that would make the server die such a horrible death (mind you it’s a quad xeon apparently).

so i wondered, what was it? and how is stuff like that being dealt with?

regards
Frank

update:
didn’t die, and recovering
load average: 104.16, 430.97, 497.11

Ridiculous loads that high are almost always due to NFS problems (i.e., NFS device is unreachable).

Didn’t actually die - still up:
mayo% uptime
13:04:08 up 16 days, 18:13, 4 users, load average: 1.97, 1.22, 13.16
