Virtual hosting

I’m toying around with my new code monster account. Since I plan to serve multiple virtual domains, I’d like to experiment activating two or more “dummy” domains in my account and add the corresponding entries in /etc/hosts so to resolve them locally.

Anyway, trying that I get the following page:

“We apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact the webmaster/
tech support immediately to have them rectify this.”

Should I wait more? Or is it simply impossible?

Thank you for your reply,

Cristiano Paris

Your method should work just fine, but Dreamhost is having DNS issues right now, and I suspect that your new domains heavn’t properly made it to the servers yet. Give it some time.

Thank you, I’ll retry then.

I am just curious as to what a Virtual Host is.

From the Wikipedia

“A shared web hosting service or virtual hosting service is a form of web hosting service where more than one web site is hosted on the same server. It is generally the most economical option for hosting as many people share the overall cost of server maintenance.”
