Viewing Website Root Folders

Hey guys -

I’m just wondering what the trick is to view someone’s website root folder directory? You know how if someone doesn’t have an index.htm(l) specified and you end up seeing all of their content instead - that’s what I’m looking to do with a couple of sites that do have a proper index page.

Thanks for any help!

Uh… other than removing the index document, you can use a CGI script that enumerates the directory. Do you know how to program a CGI script?

You can use a htaccess file with file listing options… like this

HeaderName header.html
ReadmeName footer.html
IndexIgnore .html
IndexIgnore logs
IndexOptions +NameWidth=

IndexOptions +SuppressHTMLPreamble

Otherwise just do not have an index.* file

I like the IndexOptions +NameWidth=* in htaccess because it shows the entire filename when it lists the files and dir’s

Not 100% sure what you are trying to do.

Did I read this right? Are you trying to find a way to view a directory listing on a website owned by someone else? Why would you want to do this?
