Unique IP DNS query question

#1

I plan to ‘Add IP’ for my domain. I have some question.

Assume that dedicated IP address ‘123.123.123.123’ is assigned to ‘mydomain.com’.
%nslookup mydomain.com
will return ‘123.123.123.123’.
%nslookup 123.123.123.123
Does it return ‘mydomain.com’ or ‘*****.dreamhost.com’ ?

It will return your domain name.

:stuck_out_tongue: Save up to $96 at Dreamhost with ALMOST97 promo code (I get $1).
Or save $97 with THEFULL97.

Thank you!

Hmmmm, it seems that reverse query does not return my domain. It is still ‘ip----.dreamhost.com’.

…I lost $3.95. Aaaaaagh!

Not sure why - but I tried it on several different ones and it returned the domain.

The only ones I see that on are the shared IPs.

Thank you for your reply. I’m sorry for the hasty conclusion.

After that, I’ve heard from customer service. They say it is only a matter of time. It seems that, A record and PTR record will not be changed simultaneously.
