Unable to Upgrade to latest version

Hello everyone,

I recently migrated my website from a different host to Dreamhost. Unfortunately, the version on that host is older than the current one. But I can’t upgrade it. When I try to upgrade it from the Dreamhost Panel, it shows that I am already up to date. Kindly assist me.

Best,
a.

What is [the thing] that you need to update?

Oh sorry, my bad. I am talking about Wordpress. Also, when I try to install a new plugin or update a plugin, it shows “Installation failed: Download failed. Destination directory for file streaming does not exist or is not writable.”

If you manually uploaded your WordPress files, then possibly the files and directories have the wrong permissions to allow auto-update and plugin installs? Here’s WP’s article on permissions for shared hosting, and DH’s article on the same topic:

Open up your wp-config.php file and check if someone (or something) has set a custom temporary directory path for your installation. If you see a line that looks something like
define('WP_TEMP_DIR', ABSPATH . '/some/custom/path/');
then comment it out or remove it.

Check the settings on the wp-content directory (and any directories beneath it) and ensure the permissions are all chmod 755.
