Track hotlinkers

#1

Before I came to dreamhost.com I used cPanel, it had an area where I could see who was hotlinking files of my site. Does dreamhost have anything similar? Or is there a script which I could use to track the hotlinkers.

You can run ‘grep’ on the command line like this:
grep -E “jpg |gif |png " access.log | grep -v MYDOMAIN.COM | awk -F” " ‘{print $7,$11}’

That’ll search for images that weren’t referred by your own site, then display the path/image and the Referrer.

You could make it a csh script that’s run by cron periodically.

Maybe someone knows of an easier way.

Site analog statistics shows referrers. 0 under “# pages” is usually hotlinks, and it shows the referring URL. See http://www.site.com/stats/daily.html#ref assuming you turned on statistics.
