I’m not exacly sure what you mean, but to set the title tag on a html page, you set it within the Title goes here tags.

Their is no html page… the page is generated based on the file listing and what is in the htaccess file.

Since you are using HeaderName to insert a file into directory listings, couldn’t you just include the beginnings of a HTML document in that file, including the tags?

One would think so as we did, but it doesn’t work. I end up with two title’s, one the “system” put in and the 2nd one that i included in the head file. So that does not work. I bet it has to be defined in the htaccess file - yet I cannot seem to locate that information - even after hours of googling it !

You can use IndexOptions +SuppressHTMLPreamble to suppress the system generated tags, as mentioned in the Apache documentation I linked above.

For example; If you have the following in your .htaccess file…

HeaderName /header.html
IndexOptions +SuppressHTMLPreamble

and your header.html file contains…

Some title

Below is a directory listing :)

You should get the page title you want.

Excellent. I thought it would, but it’s very easy to misunderstand someones intention with text based communications, and I wasn’t quite sure that I fully understood what you were trying to achieve.

No problem, I am always glad to help out where I can.
