Temp URL while Migrating

#1

Hi,

I want to migrate a site from another hosing company to DH. I know that I can set up the domain in the DH control panel before I update the DNS to point to DH, which is great.

What I’d really love to do is copy all the files and then be able to test the site on DH before changing the DNS.

Is there a temporary URL that I can use for testing (maybe using the IP or server address)? So I can make sure everything is working and minimize downtime.

Thanks a lot,

Jon

DreamHost doesn’t offer “hosing” packages - they are all very reasonably priced!

Seriously though, you will find the information you need on this wiki page.

perhaps it was a subtle slip, because he is ‘hosing’ the previous hosting company in favor of DH?

LOL, can you have a “freudian slip” on a keyboard?

It’s much bigger than you’d imagine; the “hosing” that is. I’m actually converting an entire site from asp.net to php because I’m sick of how unstable Windows hosting is in general.

Very happy with DH…no hosing here!

Thanks for the link, I’ll check out the wiki article.
