I have django application running under dreamhost shared hosting and so far things are pretty good. I would like to lock down the site so that apache only allows access to the application (and the associated static files) for users who are known to the django application.
It looks to me like mod_wsgi has support for exactly what I want to do, here: http://modwsgi.readthedocs.io/en/develop/user-guides/access-control-mechanisms.html
But when I created a .htaccess with the suggested entries, I got an error. Here is my .htaccess file:

Is it possible to enable wsgi authentication? Or is there another recommended way of accomplishing this?
