Subdirectories show the content in the root

So I have mediawiki installed in a directory which a domain name points to…
http://eronga.org is pointed at that directory.
Then when I put a web page into a different subdirectory (in this case named test)
I expect http://eronga.org/test to be shown, but instead without changing the url in the browser, the contents of the mediawiki in the root directory are shown.
I looked around and can’t tell what controls that. I assume that having mediawiki in the root is the cause…
Can anyone enlighten me why the contents of the wrong directory are shown?
Thanks for any help!

Take a look at the rewrite rules within your .htaccess file.

Thanks! I turned on showing hidden files in ftp, but there was no .htaccess file. I did find one in the include directory of the wiki so maybe that applies… but it had almost nothing in it and no re-write rules.
And there is no .htaccess file in the subdirectory I created.

But something must be telling the browser to show the wrong content…

What else could it be?
Very mysterious.

Another reason to be shown differnt content without a specific rule in .htaccess is that the domain might be being served from a directory other than the one that’s most apparent when viewing the structure in an FTP list.

Check the domain settings within Panel to see if perhaps the URL is being served from another location.

Panel > Domains > Manage Domains

 • Click edit next to the domain in question

 • Look at Web directory: (under Fully Hosted > Users, Files, and Paths)
