SSH issues

#1

Hi there,

I use SSH all the time, but this is my first time ever using it on Dreamhost. I created a user with shell access as per the wiki article.

I am able to log in via SSH. The only problem is I don’t know where any of my www/httdocs/public_html files are.

Upon login, I am directed to /home/username. /home I cannot do a ls. / yields nothing useful.

I tried doing a cd /, find * -name “index.php” which returned none of my files that I can access via FTP.

Can someone point me to where I can find my files?

Thank you!

Give whichever user you used to create the domain shell access and ssh in to view the site’s file system.

The public_html folder is named after the domain (eg. ~/example.com)

User root is basically : ~/ = $HOME = /home/username

~/
~/logs
~/domain1.com
~/domain2.com
~/domain3.net
~/.alias
~/.bash_history

No user has immediate access to another user’s directory. There are ways around it with groups, but it is a bit fiddly. Best to ssh in with the user you want to do work on.
