I just realized that my shared server with DH doesn’t have the PHP soap extension installed. Any work arounds for this? I’m assuming they won’t reconfigure my php installation …
Sure is. You can compile your own PHP environment at DreamHost
There’s info on compiling PHP in the Wiki -> here

How To Install PHP.INI / ionCube on DreamHost
Crazy I’ll check it out.
Keep in mind that it will count against your disk usage, and DreamHost does not support it, if any problems arise. Personally, I’ve been using a private copy of PHP for my websites for some time (years) without any issues.
Cool glad to hear. Looking at the instructions it looks like you do it per subdomain? is that right?
You could compile PHP to your user root and link any domains delegated to that user via editing the .htaccess file within each domain, or by linking (or copying) the resultant compiled php.cgi and php.ini to each domain’s /cgi-bin/.
It depends on how you configure your .htaccess file for each (sub-)domain. For example, you can install php to ~/php5 and the .htaccess file for each (sub-)domain can point to that directory.
