I’ve been unable to send mail from my new Mac… It’s always worked on PC’s, but now the Mac seems to be unable to connect to port 25 of the mail server (verified manually). Can anyone think of a reason for this?


Try switching to port 587 to connect to DreamHost mail servers. Macs come with firewall software, perhaps it is enabled and configured to block port 25? Other than that, some ISPs block port 25 unless you are connecting to their own mail server.

Open mail go to preferences. Go to the accounts tab. Outgoing mail server, server settings.
