SLOOOOW Uploads!

#1

Just curious as to why it takes me 30 minutes to upload 10mg to my domain?? I’m using Cyberduck on my Mac to upload my site, and it has been about 8 minutes and is only about 25% complete. This is how long it usually takes to upload files to the server…why is this???

There are literally dozens of possible reasons why this would be the case. Have you tested the upload speed of your connection? That’s the usual cause for sluggish uploads.

30 minutes for 10MB is approximately 45kbps. It is on the slow side. Are you using ftp or http for the upload?

Here’s a few possible speed tests you can run:

In contrast, I am getting 800kbps from here at work to my DreamHost server via SFTP.

I just did a test on pcpitstop.com and it is saying my upload speed is 652 kbps.

I am using an FTP client to upload my files.

I, too, use cyberduck and have been having what I consider slow upload speeds…I tested on two different servers at dreamhost.

I personally think it’s my route to dreamhost, my tracert is below.

I tested a 10mb file and uploaded via cyberduck
my upload speed to my server was about 65-69 kb/sec

I tested the same file via fetch
the upload speed started at 175 kb/sec and dropped about 20 seconds into it to about 70-71 kb/sec

Fugu was the same as fetch.

my upload speed is 551 kbps

and my tracert was

A quick web search shows at least a few people claiming that Cyberduck is slow compared to other FTP and SFTP programs for the Mac.

I’d try a couple of others to test this theory out. Here’s a short list of test times from a site I found:
Transmit 3.5.5: 39 seconds
Fetch 5.2: 39 seconds
Interarchy 8.2.2: 29 seconds
Cyberduck 2.7.2: 9 minutes 53 seconds
This shows Cyberduck to be 15-20 times slower than its competitors.

Thanks for the researched information, appreciate it! I will try another FTP client.
