If I have a domain name like example.com and added it on dreamhost. How to setup the MX records for mail.example.com? I know how to setup custom MX records for example.com, but I don’t know where to setup it for a subdomain.

mx records for mail.example.com are automatically created when the domain is fully hosted.
You can view these by going to manage domain in the panel and clicking the DNS link displayed under the domain name.
If you are unable to adjust as needed via custom mx records then you can contact support and they can I believe further adjust the automatically generated records.
