I'm hoping to implement an interactive image map on my site using the Google Maps API. The tricky part is that I'll need to regularly serve a couple thousand map tiles to populate the map layers. I've toyed around with serving these off my VPS directly, but the number and frequency of object requests causes problems given my PHP and caching settings.
Would it be practical and feasible to serve these images quickly out of a DreamObjects bucket? Each tile tends to be around 20kb, the main issue is the volume of image requests, rather than the size per request. If DreamObjects isn't a good way to go for this sort of thing, does anyone have a recommendation regarding an affordable method for serving image map tiles without swarming my VPS?
