Ruby on Rails Troubles

I spent the weekend diving into Ruby on Rails, and had a great time working with it on my computer. I’m having a heck of a time working in my Dreamhost account, though. I’m seeing a lot of transient 500 errors, mostly. They seem to come and go – after I get one, if I wait ten minutes or so and refresh my browser, everything’s fine. For a few more minutes, anyway, then the 500s come back. Some URLs generate 500 errors every time, others only sometimes.

There are other problems, too (.rb files that work great locally fail on Dreamhost, mostly with NilClass errors), but the 500 errors are making it hard to diagnose the others.

Is anyone else seeing this? I’m this close to just installing my own copy of ruby, but I’d like to avoid that if I can.

Oh – I’ve seen the WiKi page (especially the section of 500 errors), and it didn’t help me.

As of this afternoon, everything is working fine. I don’t know why, nor why it wasn’t earlier.
