Removing /index.php/ from Joomla site on Dreamhost

#1

In the past I have tried to remove the index.php from my URL’s without success. Someone told me it is because of issues with the ISP.

The site is in Joomla:

if I Go to the Global Configuration area within your Joomla admin.
Under SEO Settings, click YES for the following two items:

Search Engine Friendly URLs
Use Apache mod_rewrite

Now, go to your htaccess.txt file at the root of your site and rename the file .htaccess.
using a text editor remove the ‘#’ before the words ‘RewriteBase /

Would this be ok or can it cause problems? Im not sure if this is ok on Dreamhost?

Thanks in advance
Stephen
