Relations in MySQL

apps

#1

I’m relatively new to MySQL and phpMyAdmin and am trying to set up relations among the tables in my database. I find that the references on how to do that in the documentation
e.g. MySQL

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/innodb-foreign-key-constraints.html

and phpMyAdmin

http://www.phpmyadmin.net/documentation/#pmadb

aren’t supported here. I found the thread in the General Troubleshooting forum -

http://discussion.dreamhost.com/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=forum_troubleshooting&Number=18121&Search=true&Forum=All_Forums&Words=pmadb&Match=Entire Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=18117

that suggested voting for InnoDB, PostgresSQL and relational features of phpMyAdmin on the Home > Suggestions page, so I’ve done that.

Anyone else have other comments on how to put relational features into the dreamhost resident DB instead of depending on the app to manage those? Or am I completely missing something?

I’m afraid you must rely entirely on your application to check for constraints, etc.; however, since you can still create joins, the relational abilities of the database will still work.
