Refused SSH Connections

I have a problem with SSH. I can connect from my computer at home, but at school, when I try to connect using one of our 10.5 iMacs, I get

ssh -2 -vvv
OpenSSH_5.1p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7l 28 Sep 2006
debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh_config
debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0
debug1: Connecting to [] port 22.
debug1: connect to address port 22: Connection refused
ssh: connect to host port 22: Connection refused

Why does this happen? It only happens at school. There is no firewall, because if I try to connect to my SSH server at home, I can.

I can only take a wild guess that it’s due to the school computers running an older version of SSH and the servers her refusing connection from the older version.

School’s IP might be blocked due to excessive failed login attempts. Greenlantern had issues recently as well so double check you’re connecting to the correct server. Get into the habit of connecting to rather than to avoid that potential pitfall.
