Problems getting to PayPal

I have a website that uses paypal to process my cart.
I have been trying to figure out why my paypal notifications aren’t working. This started several days ago, and it is keeping my orders from getting processed.

What it boils down to is that it seems that my shared host can no longer reach ‘www.paypal.com’ to post back my IPN acknowledgement.

Paypal has several different IPs (based on region). This is what it resolves to from my shared host:
% > nslookup ‘www.paypal.com

Address: 23.43.178.234

One that can be reached is 23.64.98.234- but that isn’t what ‘www.paypal.com’ is resolving to from my shared host, and not what is in their certificate.

From my home machine when I ping the IP for paypal:
% > ping -c 1 23.43.178.234

but from my shared host:

Is anyone else seeing a problem routing to 23.43.178.234 ? I don’t have permission to run traceroute (shared plan).

23.43.178.234 is reachable from the shared server I’m on (East coast).

We’re aware of some issues reaching PayPal from some shared servers, and we’re in communication with the network providers involved. Please contact DreamHost Support, though, so we can track the issue and move you to another server if needed.
