Help! Photos don’t appear after upgrading to PHP 5.4 (or in PHP 5.3)

Wordpress 4.0
Theme Green Grass

I have cut and pasted the code and then a description of what appeared before and after 5.4.
From About Page

here is the code for the photo image:
[caption id=“attachment_11” align=“alignleft” width=“203”]Portrait of Stanley Fishman Stanley Fishman, author of Tender Grassfed Meat: Traditional Ways to Cook Healthy Meat[/caption]

Before PHP 5.4
The photo appeared with the caption:
" Stanley Fishman, author of Tender Grassfed Meat: Traditional Ways to Cook Healthy Meat"

After PHP 5.4
The alternate text appears as a link in green (the color of links in Green Grass theme. The alternate text is:
" Portrait of Stanley Fishman"

When the green link is clicked, the picture appears by itself, the link address is http://www.tendergrassfedmeat.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/20100104-Stan-Final.jpg

Below the link, the caption appears
"Stanley Fishman, author of Tender Grassfed Meat: Traditional Ways to Cook Healthy Meat"

I have tried to find the code in the Style Editor for Green Grass Theme, but I don’t know where to look.

I am able to cut and paste code into Wordpress, even though I don’t really understand the code in Wordpress. But I need step by step instructions.

If you right click and open the image in a new tab, it sends you here:

http://www.tendergrassfedmeat.com/wp-content/plugins/autothumb/image.php?src=/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/20100104-Stan-Final-203x300.jpg&aoe=1&q=100&w=203&h=300&hash=e1eeb994de1d37c19307b45e2e7762c8

So the issue is the plugin ‘autothumb’ and that code is using http://phpthumb.sourceforge.net which … is a bajillion years old.

If you remove that plugin, it should start working again. Personally I’d recommend removing it because it’s old and not secure anymore. If you want to auto-resize images in a friendly way, Jetpack has a component called Photon which does it very well.

Thank you so very much!!!

I updated the old plugin AutoThumb and the photos appear now!

I just joined the forum yesterday, and I’m so glad I did!

In WordPress.org’s plugin list, it shows the versions the plugin was made to be compatible with. It’s not an absolute, many plugins just keep working even though they aren’t updated for new versions. But a plugin that hasn’t been updated in years would be suspect if your site stopped working after an upgrade.
