Posting audio files

#1

Hi, I have a client who wants to post an hour long radio program on his site for listeners.

Does anyone have a suggestions as the optimal way for us to do this? File type? should we do the flash video type file? the radio station said they will give us the file any way we want…???

thanks

Do you want the file to play on the site or be available for download? Or both?

In general, MP3 is the most compatible with all computer operating systems, but you could also sent up a QuickTime streaming file that would play automatically when visitors to the site hit the page on which the player is located. From there, they could download, unless you want to block that.

Please check out one of my sites, http://theparacast.com for an example of how we set this up.

I’ve seen a number of podcasting websites use flash interface widgets or other “on-site” players to their advantage. http://www.jayandjack.com being one of them. They’re usually used by podcasts (which is another way you might think of distributing it) in mp3 format.

If you do a search on “podcast hosting” - you will find many places that have tools to help you with your tasks.
