Port 25 Blocked on SBC, how to use SMTP server?

#1

SBC is blocking port 25 for all residential customers in an effort to thwart spammers . . . Unfortunatly this has rendered me unable to use my SMTP server through dreamhost.

I have a request in with SBC to unblock port 25 but it appears people are having to jump through hoops for SBC to do what they need. I was hoping that there might be an alternative way to use the dreamhost SMTP server? Maybe an alternative port?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

kb article If you had searched for SMTP.

The relevent paragraph:
DreamHost does support message submission protocol, as per RFC 2476. This means that you can use port 587 for outgoing mail. If your mailer supports it, you can simply set it to send outgoing mail on this port instead of port 25.
