Point home web server to Dreamhost DNS

domains

#1

I’ve tried my google-fu, but it isn’t helping me out very much.

I’m trying to host a site on an old linux box I have at home. Like the vast majority of home users, I have a dynamic IP address. Can I point my Dreamhost registered domain to my home server?

Hi there!

If you have a domain registered with us you can change the DNS settings to point A records and name servers to a different host. We have a guide here https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/216385417-How-do-I-change-my-nameservers-at-DreamHost-

Thanks!

What @DH_Matt_C can work if your home IP address changes very rarely. If it’s very dynamic, you may try to use DreamHost API with a bit caveat: those APIs are not supported and may not work forever. Check these unsupported scripts that use those API.

For a more stable approach, I’d use a proper dynamic DNS service like NoIP.
