pMachinePro installation problem

#1

In response to an earlier post, haggis suggested the following for editing the pMachinePro config.php file:

// HOST NAME OR SERVER ADDRESS
Example:
$hostname = “mysql.yourdomain.com”;

So I entered “mysql.stevegerber.com” since stevegerber.com is my domain name.

// MySQL USERNAME
Example
$dbusername = “username_you_chose_for_database”;

So I entered “SGerber”, which is the username I chose for the database.

// MySQL PASSWORD
$dbpassword = “password_you_chose_for_database”;

So I entered the password that I use to access the database from the mySQL page on the Dreamhost Control Panel.

// DATABASE NAME
Example:
$dbname = “name_you_chose_for_database”;

So I entered “gerblog”, which is the name of the database.

But when I run pMachine’s installation script, it tells me:

“Could not establish a connection to your database.”

Anybody have any idea what I’m doing wrong?

All suggestions appreciated!

When you setup your MySQL db what did you make the db hostname? That’s what should go in the hostname field.

If you didn’t setup a hostname when you created your db, you need to goto the Control Panel and do that.

I did set up a hostname (gerblog.stevegerber.com), and I could have sworn that I tried that as the server address, but – I guess not, because this time it worked.

Thank you, Bryan.

No problem! Glad it’s working for you. pMachine Pro is a great system. I had used it for awhile before switching to ExpressionEngine. And now that it’s free, it’s an even better deal :wink:
