Plz help me with unix groups. All are broken now!

#1

I used the unix groups technique before with no problem (you can see a proof here: http://www.screenr.com/WCP

But today I had to set up another one. But didn’t work. Even worst, I tried the one I posted in screenr, and it’s not working anymore! Filezilla shows:

Status: Connecting to nett.mx
Response: fzSftp started
Command: open "praisa@nett.mx" 22
Command: Pass: ********
Status: Connected to nett.mx
Status: Starting download of /home/praisa/praisa.com.mx
Command: cd "/home/praisa"
Response: New directory is: "/home/praisa"
Command: get “praisa.com.mx” "\praisa.com.mx"
Error: /home/praisa/praisa.com.mx: open for read: permission denied
Error: File transfer failed

What I noted is that “get” command is different. In the screenr video you can see that before it only showed a ls command… I’ve requested a support ticket but they told me they can’t help me with unix groups… But I’m almost sure this has to do with some recent change in the server’s configuration they’ve made

Could somebody help me plz? I’m considering using the re-map subdir option but I don’t like how “Not even the ‘main’ domain user will be able to access it” sounds :frowning:

I couldn’t follow in the video what you are trying to attempt.

Do you have “enhanced security” set for the users in the panel. That will prevent group access.

Thx for your answer LakeRat… in the video I showed you that I was being able to use the unix groups feature to share a folder among users… but now I’m unable to do so. I’ve just received the answer from the technical support staff:

Unfortunately, due to recent security related changes within the shared
server environment, group level UNIX security is no longer supported. If
you require group level FTP permissions, you will most likely need to
upgrade to our VPS product. I apologize for the inconvenience.

At least we have the remap subdir option… I’m seeing a lot of hacked sites :frowning: I’ll better check my sites

Why is this option still appearing on https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=users.groups& ??

#6

Because it takes DreamHost about 1-2 years to update their websites to match reality. And by that time, reality has changed.
